Jersey History |
Does traveling to the US count if I live here? Yes. The US joined the IIHF on April 26, 1920 and currently rank #6 for men's in the world, #2 for women's in the world, and reside in top division for men's IIHF tournaments. The 2009 IIHF World Championship would take place in Bern and Kloten, Switzerland. USA would do pretty well this tournament coming in 4th with a record of 4-0-2-3 (W-OTW-OTL-L). Russia would end up winning the tournament with Canada taking silver and Sweden taking bronze.
This jersey was game worn during the 2009 IIHF World Championship. Being in the top division, the jersey would be made of Nike's Swift material which was very lightweight, form fitting, and included a tie down fight strap. The Nike swoosh logo would be sewn in the top right shoulder and the IIHF patch would be sewn on the back bottom hem. The tagging includes the IIHF Authentic Collection tag as well as a screen printed numbered size and "Made in Canada" on the inside neck. The USA Hockey "Official Licensed Product" logo is sublimated next to the sizing. The inside bottom hem includes the heat pressed Nike bar-code.
The main crest would be USA Hockey's logo which is sewn on. Stars would be sublimated on both sleeves (but are covered by the sponsor patches). The numbers are double layered twill sewn onto the jersey and the name is heat pressed onto the nameplate which is sewn to the jersey. This jersey style was worn during the games against Latvia winning 4-2, Sweden losing 5-6, Switzerland losing 3-4, Finland winning 3-2, and Sweden again losing 2-4. This jersey style would be worn for IIHF tournaments only in 2009 and be sponsored by Zepter. This style with "Land of the Free, Home of the Brave" sublimated at the bottom right sleeve would be worn from 2011-2013.

Jack Johnson, the hockey player not the musician, has been a pretty decent defenseman until his most recent years. Born in Indianapolis, IN, Johnson would play in the US National Team Development Program before he was drafted 3rd overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2005. He would continue playing college hockey as the Hurricanes would trade his rights away to the Los Angeles Kings. He would join the Kings during the end of the 2006-07 season. He would play with the Kings for 5 more seasons before being traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets, spending 6 years in Columbus before signing with the Pittsburgh Penguins for 2 years, getting waived and ending up in New York with Rangers for 1 season, signing a PTO with the Colorado Avalanche (winning the Stanley Cup), getting traded to the Blackhawks, and finally signing back with the Avs where he plays today. The 2009 tournament was Johnson's second year playing in the World Championship for the US. During the tournament, Johnson would play 9 games while scoring 5 goals, 2 assists, collecting 10 PIMs, and finishing +1 overall.
