Jersey History |
I am so incredibly excited about this jersey. If not for the history and significance of it, but for the fact that I was able to get in touch and talk to the actual player themselves! Thailand joined the IIHF earlier than I had thought, doing so on April 27, 1989. They currently rank #43 for men's in the world, #45 for women's in the world, and reside in Division II Group B for men's IIHF tournaments. The 2019 IIHF World Championship Division III Qualification tournament would take place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This is Thailand's first ever World Championship tournament, they would do well this tournament coming in 3rd with a record of 2-1-0-2 (W-OTW-OTL-L). UAE would end up winning the tournament with Hong Kong taking 2nd. Kyrgyzstan unfortunately had an issue with one of their players voiding their first four games which was eventually ruled as a mistake by the IIHF but the scoring would remain forfeited for those games.
This jersey was game worn during the 2019 IIHF World Championship Division III Qualification tournament. Being in the lower divisions, the jersey would be made of Tackla's Airknit material which was very soft, form fitting, and includes a tie down fight strap as is mandated for men's national teams in 2019. The IIHF logo would be sublimated on the front neck area and the IIHF main logo would be sublimated on the back bottom hem. The tagging includes the IIHF Authentic Collection tag as well as Tackla's retail tag and size in letter form.
The main crest would be an elephant, which is Thailand's national animal, and "THAILAND" which are both sublimated on. The numbers are sublimated onto the jersey and the name is heat pressed onto the nameplate which is sewn to the jersey. Since Thai last names are usually pretty long, the team would put the first name or nickname of the player on their jerseys. This jersey was worn during games against Bosnia and Herzegovina winning 5-4 and Hong Kong losing 5-6. This jersey style would be worn for IIHF tournaments from 2019-present. Lower divisions typically did not have sponsors on the jerseys.

Front Logo
Well I was lucky enough to actually talk with Patrick Forstner about his career. Born in Wien, Austria, Forstner would grow up playing hockey in Austria and even went over to Canada for a short while to play there. He would return to Austria though to start his professional career playing in various leagues. After a bad injury, he would take a break from hockey, travel to Thailand for good, and meet the right people to start playing in the Siam Hockey League where he currently plays. Being half Thai, he would represent Thailand internationally for multiple tournaments. The 2019 tournament would be his, and Thailand's, first World Championship. During the tournament, Forstner would play 4 games while scoring 0 goals, 4 assists, collecting 0 PIMs, and finishing +3 overall.
