Jersey History |
COVID is just the worst let me tell you. Switzerland was set to host the World Championships this year till the tournament had to be canceled because of COIVD. Switzerland joined the IIHF on November 23, 1908 and currently rank #5 for men's in the world, #5 for women's in the world, and reside in the top division for men's IIHF tournaments. The 2020 World Championships were supposed to be held in the cities of Lausanne and Zürich. With the cancellation, Switzerland was then selected to host the 2026 tournament.
This jersey was game issued during the cancelled 2020 World Championships. Being the top division, the jersey would be made of Nike's Swift material which was very lightweight, form fitting, and included a tie down fight strap. The Nike swoosh logo would be sewn in the top right chest and the IIHF patch would be sewn on the back bottom hem. The tagging includes the IIHF Authentic Collection tag as well as a screen printed numbered size and "Made in Canada" on the inside neck. The inside bottom hem includes the heat pressed Nike bar-code.
The main crest would be a shielded Swiss cross, the national ensign of Switzerland, which is heat pressed on. The inside neck line would have "Mut. Vertrauen. Stärke. Stolz." meaning "Courage. Trust. Strength. Proud." sublimated on. The numbers are single layered twill heat pressed onto the jersey and the name is heat pressed onto the nameplate which is sewn to the jersey. This jersey style would be worn for IIHF tournaments from 2018-2021 and be sponsored by Tissot during this time.

Kevin Fiala has slowly come into his prime for being a first round pick, which yes first round picks don't always pan out. Born in St. Gallen, Switzerland, Fiala would play in the Swedish Elite League before being drafted 11th overall by the Nashville Predators in 2014. He would finish his career in the SHL before joining the Predators organization where he spent time between the NHL and AHL for four seasons before being traded to the Minnesota Wild for Mikael Granlund in 2019. He would spend three more seasons with the Wild before being traded to the Los Angeles Kings where he currently plays. This would've been Fiala's fifth World Championship representing Switzerland. He's represented Switzerland at every level internationally except for the Olympics.
