Jersey History |
It was so cool to see the pride Poland had when their men's team reached the top division after so long, but this will be my first women's jersey! If only I could fit into women's sizes. Poland joined the IIHF on January 11, 1926 and currently rank #21 for men's in the world, #20 for women's in the world, and reside in Division I Group A for men's IIHF tournaments. The 2018 IIHF Women's World Championship Division I Group B tournament would take place in Asiago, Italy. Poland would unfortunately finish last coming in 6th with a record of 0-0-0-5 (W-OTW-OTL-L). Italy would end up winning the tournament with South Korea taking second and Latvia taking third.
I haven't fully photo matched this jersey as the nameplate and potential sponsor patches have been removed, so I'll be focusing on the last tournament this style was worn for now. Being in the lower divisions, the jersey would be made of Tackla's Airknit material which was very soft and form fitting. The IIHF logo would be sublimated on the front neck area and the IIHF main logo would be sublimated on the back bottom hem. The tagging includes the IIHF Authentic Collection tag as well as Tackla's retail tag and size in letter form.
The main crest would be the Orzeł Biały (white eagle) which is the national coat of arms for Poland, and "POLSKA" which are both sublimated on. The shoulders would have the Polski Związek Hokeja na Lodzie (Polish Ice Hockey Federation) logo which are also sublimated on. The numbers are sublimated onto the jersey and the nameplate was removed for this jersey. This jersey style would be worn for IIHF tournaments from 2005-2018. Lower divisions typically did not have sponsors on the jerseys, but multiple sponsors were worn on this jersey style throughout its time. Still confirming those.

Still not sure if she wore this jersey, but like I mentioned I'll be focusing on the last tournament this style was worn so for now Joanna Orawska is the one! Not a lot of information about her personally, but she was born in Poland and has been a part of the Polish hockey program since her junior career. She's played for the U18 and the senior team multiple times and would primarily play in Poland's professional league, Polska Hokej Liga (Polish Hockey League or PHL). She would go over to Slovakia for a couple stints and bounce to the European Women's Hockey League (EWHL) during her career, but plays for Naprzód Janów today in the PHL. The 2018 tournament would be her fourth for Poland. During the tournament, Orawska would play 5 games while scoring 0 goals, 0 assists, collecting 0 PIMs, and finishing 0 overall.
