Jersey History |
I never actually thought I'd find a Mexico jersey but here we are. Mexico joined the IIHF on April 30, 1985 and currently rank #42 for men's in the world, #25 for women's in the world, and reside in Division III Group B for men's IIHF tournaments. The 2019 IIHF World Championship Division II Group B tournament would take place in Mexico City, Mexico. Mexico would finish in the towards the bottom coming in 5th with a record of 1-0-1-3 (W-OTW-OTL-L). Israel would end up winning the tournament with Iceland taking second and New Zealand taking third.
I believe this jersey was used during scrimmages or other games with Mexico as Samperio was not on an official roster during this time. Being in the lower divisions, the jersey would be made of Tackla's Airknit material which was very soft, form fitting, and includes a tie down fight strap as is mandated for men's national teams in 2019. The IIHF logo would be sublimated on the front neck area and the IIHF main logo would be sublimated on the back bottom hem. The tagging includes the IIHF Authentic Collection tag as well as Tackla's retail tag and size in letter form.
The main crest would just be "MEXICO" which is sublimated on. Both sleeves would have the outline of the country of Mexico sublimated on. The numbers are sublimated onto the jersey and the name is sublimated onto the nameplate which is sewn to the jersey. This jersey style would be worn for IIHF tournaments from 2019-present. Lower divisions typically did not have sponsors on the jerseys.

Enrique Samperio has represented Mexico internationally multiple times. He's played in the IIHF World Championship Division II group B in 2012, 2014, and 2022. He's also played for Mexico twice for the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in 2012 and 2016 and in the Pan-Am Tournament in 2014. Outside of his international play, Samperio plays in the Liga Mexicana Elite for the Teotihuacan Priests and currently for the Mayan Astronomers.
