Jersey History |
Ireland has been having a tough time staying in the IIHF. They first joined the IIHF on September 26, 1996 and in 2004-2013 would play in the IIHF World Championships in the lower divisions, mostly Division II and III. They have been unable to compete in any IIHF World Championships from 2013-present as they do not have an operational indoor rink. This was a new requirement the IIHF put forth for any countries wanting to participate in the World Championship tournament. Ireland is currently trying to get back to good standing and compete in the tournaments by restoring their ice rinks. In the meantime they've played in the IIHF Development Cups. This jersey is from the 2018 IIHF Development Cup where the tournament would take place in Füssen, Germany. Ireland would do well this tournament coming in 3rd winning bronze with a record of 2-0-0-3 (W-OTW-OTL-L). Macedonia would win this tournament with Portugal coming in second.
This jersey was game worn during the 2018 IIHF Development Cup. Being in the lower divisions/not playing in a World Championship, the jersey would be made of Tackla's Airknit material which was very soft, form fitting, but did not included a tie down fight strap. The IIHF logo would be sublimated on the front neck area and the IIHF main logo would be sublimated on the back bottom hem. The tagging includes the IIHF Authentic Collection tag as well as Tackla's retail tag and size in letter form.
The main crest would be the Celtic harp and "IRELAND" below it which are both sublimated on. The right shoulder includes the Irish Ice Hockey Association logo sublimated on. The numbers are sublimated onto the jersey and, being a part of the IIHF Development Cup, names were not necessary to put on. This jersey was worn during their game against Andorra winning 6-4 and Portugal losing 1-10. This jersey style would be worn for IIHF tournaments from 2018-present. Lower divisions typically did not have sponsors on the jerseys.

Well there's not much information on Ronan Weir. He could possibly be related to retired NHL player Stan Weir as Ronan was born in Oshawa, ON. Weir has played in the 2017, 2018, 2022, 2023, and 2024 IIHF Development Cups for Ireland. During the 2018 tournament, Weir would play 5 games while scoring 4 goals, 10 assists, and collect 6 PIMs.
