Jersey History |
Great Britain has made some great strides recently in their development. They were one of the first countries to join the IIHF on November 19, 1908 and currently rank #17 for men's in the world, #21 for women's in the world, and reside in Division I Group A for men's IIHF tournaments. The 2019 IIHF World Championship would take place in Slovakia in the cities of Bratislava and Košice. Being in the top division for the first time since 1994, Great Britain would not do so well this tournament coming in 13th with a record of 0-1-0-6 (W-OTW-OTL-L). Finland would end up winning the tournament with Canada taking silver and Russia taking bronze.
This jersey was game worn during the 2019 IIHF World Championship. Being in the top division, the jersey would be made of Nike's Swift material which was very lightweight, form fitting, and included a tie down fight strap. The Nike swoosh logo would be sewn in the top right shoulder and the IIHF patch would be sewn on the back bottom hem. The tagging includes the IIHF Authentic Collection tag as well as a screen printed numbered size and "Made in Canada" on the inside neck. The inside bottom hem includes the heat pressed Nike bar-code.
The main crest would be the lion from the royal coat of arms and "GREAT BRITAIN" below it which are both heat pressed on. The numbers are heat pressed onto the jersey and the name is heat pressed onto the nameplate which is sewn to the jersey. This jersey was worn only during the game against Slovakia losing 1-7, but the style would be worn against Germany losing 1-3 and Denmark losing 0-9. This jersey style would be worn for IIHF tournaments from 2019-2021 and would be sponsored by Lucas in 2019.

Joey Lewis was very lucky to play in this tournament. Born in Newport, Great Britain, Lewis grew up playing in Wales and England before moving to Germany to play in their junior and eventually professional leagues. He's become a pretty dynamic scorer playing in the DEL2 where he currently plays for ESV Kaufbeuren. Lewis would represent Great Britain in World Junior Championships from 2009-2012 but was never really apart of the men's national team as the lower German leagues would always interfere with the tournaments. Lewis was ecstatic to be able to participate in the tournament this year, being in the top division, and would finally get his chance to play when Matthew Myers was injured against Finland. During the tournament, Lewis would play 2 games while scoring 0 goals, 0 assists, collecting 0 PIMs, and finishing -2 overall.
