Jersey History |
Germany has become more of a hockey powerhouse recently. They were one of the first countries to join the IIHF on September 19, 1909 and currently rank #8 for men's in the world, #9 for women's in the world, and reside in the top division for men's IIHF tournaments. The 2018 IIHF World Championship would take place in Denmark in the cities of Copenhagen and Herning. Germany would not do so well this tournament coming in 11th with a record of 1-1-2-3 (W-OTW-OTL-L). Sweden would end up winning the tournament with Switzerland taking silver and the US taking bronze.
This jersey was game worn during the 2018 IIHF World Championship. Being in the top division, the jersey would be made of Nike's Swift material which was very lightweight, form fitting, and included a tie down fight strap. The Nike swoosh logo would be sewn in the top right shoulder and the IIHF patch would be sewn on the back bottom hem. The tagging includes the IIHF Authentic Collection tag as well as a screen printed numbered size and "Made in Canada" on the inside neck. The inside bottom hem includes the heat pressed Nike bar-code.
The main crest would be the Bundesadler, the coat of arms of Germany, which is heat pressed on. The Deutscher Eishockey-Bund (German Ice Hockey Federation) logo would be sublimated on the top of both shoulders. The inside neck line would have "Einigkeit Recht Freiheit" meaning "Unity Justice Freedom" sublimated on. The numbers are single twill heat pressed onto the jersey and the name is heat pressed onto the nameplate which is sewn to the jersey. This jersey was worn during the preliminary round games against Canada losing 0-3 and Finland winning 3-2. This jersey style would be worn for IIHF tournaments from 2018-2021 and be sponsored by Westminster during this time.

Marcel Noebels did make it over the pond for a short while during his career. Born in Tönisvorst, Germany, Noebels would play in the WHL before being drafted 118th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2011. He unfortunately would never make it to the NHL playing in the ECHL and AHL for a couple years before the Flyers terminated his contract. He currently plays with Eisbären Berlin in the DEL. Noebels would represent Germany in seven IIHF World Championships and even the 2022 and 2018 Olympics where Germany won silver. The 2018 tournament was Noebels' fourth year playing in the World Championship for Germany. During the tournament, Noebels would play 7 games while scoring 0 goals, 1 assist, collecting 2 PIMs, and finishing +1 overall.
