Jersey History |
Well they say jersey collecting is an addiction and here I am with another AHL jersey! I had a random inspiration to get this jersey as I was probably more of a Wolves fan than Blackhawks during the Hawks dark days. Actually it's pretty interesting that the Wolves were once the only AHL organization that had a TV deal as they were able to get one since the Hawks weren't showing their home games on TV for a period. They even got Pat Foley to announce games for a couple seasons until the Hawks resurgence. The Chicago Wolves were founded in 1994 and have actually been a very successful minor league team and organization. They originally joined the IHL and ended up winning two Turner Cups in 1998 and 2000. When the IHL folded, the Wolves were able to move to the AHL where they became the affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers. They would add two more championships during this time winning the Calder Cup in 2002 and 2008. Once the Thrashers were relocated, the Wolves were affiliated with multiple NHL teams starting with the Canucks for a couple seasons, the Blues for three seasons, the Vegas Golden Knights for a couple seasons, and finally ending up with the Hurricanes where they were able to win another Calder Cup in 2022. There were some periods where they actually had two NHL teams they were affiliated with! Well after all that bouncing around, the Wolves would officially announce their independence starting during the 2023-24 season where they'll have no NHL affiliated team, making them the first independent AHL organization since the 1994-95 season. Their jersey has been the same design since the teams inception in 1994 which is pretty cool considering they bounced around with their NHL affiliations. Their main logo would be a wolf head in front of a hockey puck and stick. The shoulder patches would just be the main wolf head on a yellow background. Being a minor league team they would have an ad patch on their jersey through different periods. For the time period of this jersey though, there was no ad on the jersey.
